This is the story of Wang Ta-khian village, where a beautiful woman named Phraethong fell in love with Muen Khiri. Forced to marry another man, Phloeng, she ran away with her true love. But Phloeng found them, and in a fit of rage, killed Muen Khiri. Heartbroken, Phraethong took her own life. The lovers were buried together beneath a Ta-khian tree.

Centuries passed, but because she had died by suicide, Phraethong could not be reborn. Instead, she became Mae Ya Wang Ta-khian, a spirit worshipped by the villagers. Bound to the tree, she waits patiently for the day she can be reunited with Muen Khiri.
